La Luck

A beautiful and cozy place with exciting drinks, quality food where you can play games with friends under guidance of a qualified "games sommelier."

We might be a bit biased here, cus we love games and drinks and brunch – so what is better than a place that combines all of that!? La Luck is hard to pin down – although the original La Luck is based in Lille, FR, there is a Canadian undertone (maple syrup cans for cutlery, and poutine on the menu… although their rendition of poutine is a sensitive subject among the Canadian friends who have tried it).

The menu is packed with hearty meals (whether you are there for brunch, a snack, or light dinner) including a relatively good range of vegan options. Additionally, La Luck has a great selection of beers and a rotating list of cocktails.

The upstairs is a full on game room, with a floor to ceiling wall of board games, card games, puzzles, etc., while the downstairs is an eclectic hall of mirrors and intimate booth style tables. There is also a terrace (that you must pass trough to enter), and in the summer there are tables on the street. So, while there is the option to reserve, there is usually plenty of space! However, it is important to note that games are only played on the upper floor, and there is a 5 euro charge per person – but that is unlimited!

While the food and atmosphere is great, we highly recommend going for the games! Unlike other “boardgame bars,” La Luck takes good care of the gaming experience… no sticky boards or missing pieces. Upon arrival you are approached by a “boardgame sommelier” (usually both English and French speaking) who asks what sort of game your group is interested in; a fast game, a thinking game, a competitive game, etc. and then makes a suggestion accordingly.  They also stay to explain the game and play an initial round or two to ensure the group gets it!

Finally, and probably most importantly… you can call over the game sommelier at any point if there is a dispute amongst player – which is unsurprisingly incredibly common – especially once once the drinks start flowing :)!
