Le Damoiselle

This classic bistro 'Saint-Gillois' does NOT disappoint! Amazing quality and terrific service. You can tell the owners take much pride in their food and their neighborhood.

Wow – so I started out a bit miffed, because this place isn’t open on the weekends – a sign of a classic Belgian establishment. But… my annoyance quickly disappeared when we finally found a night of the week to go. From the website design, to the menu, to the funky, yet welcoming interior, I cannot recommend this place enough. While the menu is classic (incl. amazing cheese on display) and full of “Gaint-Gillois” style eats, there is usually a vegetarian, fish, and then meat option, making it a great location for any groups!

In addition to the cool atmosphere – colorful chairs and walls, paintings (which reflects Brussels love of cartoon culture) and great food, the restaurant often displays local artists. With T-Shirts from the artists for sale, as well as a souvenir post card upon leaving, La Damoiselle is a perfect place for locals or when you want to show off some local culture for visitors.

Pros
  • Casual, yet refined
  • Great atmosphere, with local flair
  • Small menu, with good variety, very tasty
Cons
  • Not open on the weekends 🙁

An excellent local spot to enjoy a night in Saint-Gilles, or bring people from out of town to experience real Brussels.
