Mary Chocolatier

Mary is one of those few Belgian chocolatiers that you can only get in Belgium (ok there are two stores in Tokyo too). Plus her style is CUTE!

One of the main questions we get asked is “where can I find the best Belgian chocolate?” The problem is, Belgian chocolate is so good it is now sold all over the world… However Mary is truly Belgian, with just a few stores outside the country. I always recommend Mary Chocolates also due to the very cute packaging, making their chocolate boxes great gifts (the boxes are excellent to save and reuse).

Mary Delluc founded the shop in 1919. She was a savvy business women (one of the very few in the chocolate game) and set up her original shop at 126 rue Royal, where the king and other members the aristocracy would pass daily. She expanded to include an art deco style tea shop.

Mary kept a record of all her customer’s favorite chocolates, which you can still experience today marked by the different figures on the truffles – for example Manon noisette, Astrid, Leopold, and of course, Mary.

Pros
  • Great for gifts
  • Unique to Belgium
Cons
  • A bit on the cutesy side 🙂

The Chatelain Quarter in Ixelles is a lively, chic neighborhood with a cozy, village-like feel. the area is full of stylish boutiques, and trendy cafes and nice restaurants.
