One of the beauties of Brussels is the amount of green space and terraces so that when there is a sunny day it is easy to take advantage! The Guinguette (meaning open-air café) chain of Brussels open seasonally generally starting in May.
Guinguettes are outdoor cafes or bars that are popular in France and Belgium. They are usually located in the parks and green spaces in Brussels, and offer a relaxed, casual atmosphere where you can enjoy food, drinks, and live music.
In Brussels, there are several guinguettes – some of the main ones are in Parc du Cinquantenaire, Parc Duden, and Parc de Laeken. They all have a similar vibe to the year round Kiosk in Bois de la Cambre.

Overall, guinguettes are a great option for anyone looking for a relaxed and fun summertime, outdoor atmosphere in Brussels. Whether you’re looking to enjoy a drink with friends, listen to live music, or sample some local cuisine, these popular outdoor cafes are a great choice. While some require a small trek outside the city to some of the fringe parks, they are always a great option for a sunny afternoon!
Food and drink
The guinguettes serve a variety of light snacks and meals including Sunday brunch, snacks and finger foods (olives, hummus, etc), burgers, and quiche.
Drinks wise, the guinguettes offer summery type, refreshing drinks, like a classic aperol spritz, homemade lemonade, and mojitos, and of course a variety of local, Belgian beers. The guinguettes also serve coffee.
While all the guinguettes are awesome places to spend an afternoon enjoying a coffee or drink, on your own or with friends, one of the most hoping, lively ones is Maurice, in Cinquantenaire.
